3-1-15 – Location – Camarillo, California – Incident – Train Hits Car On Tracks

A vehicle was reported to have been hit by a passenger train at Pleasant Valley Road and Fifth Street south of Camarillo Sunday night.

The incident was reported at 7:56 p.m. as a vehicle “stuck on tracks,”according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP reported the vehicle was empty when it was hit by the passenger train, an Amtrak Surfliner that had 78 people on board, the Ventura County Fire Department said. Fire officials said there were no reported injuries, adding the three people in the vehicle got out before the train hit.

Numerous other cars were hit in the incident, according to the CHP, although it was unclear if the other vehicles were hit by the train.

The CHP said it appeared everyone was out of the vehicle by the time the train hit.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office was asked to divert traffic on to Sturgis Road following the incident.
