5-14-15 – Location – Milwaukee – Incident – Amtrak Train Catches On Fire

No one was injured when a fire began Thursday afternoon in Milwaukee in the engine compartment of an Amtrak train that had left Chicago.

The fire was reported in the engine car of an Amtrak train at West Walker and South Barclay streets in Milwaukee at 12:06 p.m., according to the Milwaukee Fire Department. The train is in the Walker’s Point neighborhood on the city’s southeast side.

The train was evacuated and none of the 51 passengers or three crew members aboard were hurt, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said.

The fire was contained to the engine compartment, and was reported to be under control by 12:54 p.m., authorities said.

Canadian Pacific has halted all traffic on the tracks in the area, according to the fire department.

Amtrak has canceled the 1 p.m. train from Milwaukee to Chicago, Magliari said.
