Tanker crash, fire closes 2 interstates in Columbus
The crash occurred around 6 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lane of Interstate 270 where it passes under Interstate 70 on the west side of Columbus.
The fire extended into the I-70 highway. Authorities say both I-270 and I-70 have been closed in both directions near the crash as crews work to contain the flames.
Police say the driver, who was able to escape without serious injury, told authorities the tanker contained about 8,000 gallons of ethanol.
Media reports indicate that parts of Interstate 70 may be closed for days due to damage the overpass sustained in the fire.
