Amtrak train 500 carried 43 passengers and a crew of three, said Vernae Graham, Amtrak spokeswoman.

“It sounds like we clipped the trailer after the front already crossed the track,” Graham said about the 7:25 a.m. crash.

The Sheriff’s Office first Tweeted just before 8 a.m. the crash occurred near Ehlen Road  and First Street.

“The truck was traveling east on First Street in Aurora when it was forced to stop on the tracks due to heavy traffic,” Sheriff’s Office Lt. Chris Baldridge said in a news release. The truck was carrying paper pulp destined for China, he said.

Graham said the passengers were headed north from Eugene toward Seattle. Those passengers will be taken by bus to Portland. Those that have tickets to Seattle or other destinations will catch another train, Graham said.

No other Amtrak train departures will be impacted by the crash, she said.
